Angels from the Realms of Glory serves as a rousing call to worship, calling on angels, shepherds, wise men, saints, and sinners to worship Christ, the newborn king.
It is written by James Montgomery who published it in his Sheffield newspaper on Christmas Eve 1816. It only started to become well known after he republished it in The Christian Psalmist in 1825.
Janet said this about her choice:
‘To me, this carol tells the Christmas story.’
Not only does the carol herald the birth of Jesus but also proclaims that we can be reconciled to God through Jesus:
‘Justice now revokes the sentence, Mercy calls you; break your chains.’
It then looks forward to Jesus returning when ‘Every knee shall then bow down’. Revelation 21:4 says that ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." What a wonderful way to remind us of God’s plan by singing this beautiful carol!
